Top American fashion and accessory designer Marc Jacobs will soon be launching a new range of environmentally-conscious eyewear. The ‘range’ only consists of one pair of sunglasses though, however they are available as both standard and prescription sunglasses. The design of the sunglasses includes a frame in a chocolate colour, and the temples have a leaf textured design. The sunglasses will come in a case that is made of repurposed leather, whilst the actual shape and design of the sunglasses is vintage inspired.
This sunglass design is part of a bid to raise awareness for The Nature Conservancy. The Nature Conservancy is an organization that works on ecological issues all around the world. The sunglasses will be released as part of The Nature Conservancy’s ‘Plant A Seed – Grow Your Tree And Save The Forest’ campaign. The purpose of the campaign is to inform and teach people of the erosion that is taking place in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest. This campaign is focused on restoring the Atlantic Forest in Brazil. The forest is one of the most endangered tropical forests in the entire world. Only about 12% of its original area still exists, with just 7% being properly conserved.
What makes these sunglasses environmentally friendly and conscious is that they are manufactured from a material derived from castor oil seeds, not to mention that the case is made of repurposed leather.
The glasses will be released as part of the Marc by Marc Jacobs line which already boasts a large collection of designer eyewear. Not only will this project raise awareness of the campaign, but Marc Jacobs will also be giving part of the proceeds to The Nature Conservancy organization.
